Short Description
A guitarfish with a broad, wedge-shaped snout and pectoral disc [536]. Tan to dark brown above, white below [536]. Typical Cape color variant with numerous small eyespots (dark brown spot ringed with white and a brown margin) on back; Natal color variants with simple large dark spots [536].

Distribution
Southeast Atlantic: Namibia to central Natal, South Africa. Record from Madagascar is uncertain (Ref. 3919). Source: www.gbif.org

Biology
Exhibit ovoviparity (aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures [733]. 2-10 young born in the summer [536].
