Short Description
Dark grey or bronze-grey above, white below; caudal fin with a conspicuous wide black posterior margin; undersides of pectoral and pelvic fins with black tips and posterior margins, but fins otherwise not conspicuously black or white-tipped except for white-tipped first dorsal in some individuals [544].

Distribution
Indo-Pacific: Madagascar and the Mauritius-Seychelles area, possibly India; also Red Sea to South Africa if Carcharhinus wheeleri is synonymized with this species. In the Pacific, it ranges from southern China to northern Australia and the Tuamoto Archipelago. First record: 2013: off Agatti Island in Lakshadweep Sea, India [17798] Source: www.gbif.org

Biology
Viviparous, placental [733]. 1-6 pups in a litter [517]. Gestation period about 12 months [517]. Size at birth 50 to 60 cm [578] (Ref. 37816) or 75 cm [517]. Distinct pairing with embrace [17086]. Inhabits tropical waters except regions with coral reefs [17641]. Occurs on the continental shelf (Ref. 75154). A carnivor [17641].
