Original diagnose after Haug (1905) p. 821-22 [1093]:
Gigantichthys numidus n. sp.
Pl. XVII, lig. 9-13.
Je rapporte au genre Gigantichthys Dames une espèce représentée, parmi les matériaux originaires du Djoua, par une cinquantaine de dents, dont 30 environ sont réduites à fa base de la racine et dont 13 seulement ont conservé d'une manière partielle la couronne, qui était recouverte d'émail et qui est séparée de la base par un anneau oblique. Aucune n'a conservé la pointe, aucune trace de l'émail n'est visible.
La surface d'insertion de ces dents présente la forme d'une selle dont l'axe correspondau diamètre antéro-postérieur. La base est conique, comprimée latéralement, de sorte que la section en est subquadrangulaire. Elle est couverte de sillons verticaux, qui ne se prolongent pas sur la surface d'insertion et qui s'arrêtent au voisinage d'une ligne décurrente délimitant la couronne, c'est-à-dire la surface primitivement couverte d'émail. La couronne paraît avoir été très haute, sa section est elliptique, au moins à la base.
