Odontaspis noronhai (MAUL, 1955)

 

Description after Maul 1955 [#1599]:

Teeth 38 in upper and 40 in lower jaw. Above, on each side, the first tooth near snout - tip is minute and pointed. The second and third teeth are large, consisting each of an awl- shaped cusp and one distinct denticle on each side near the broad base. The group following these begin with a small tooth, the next being somewhat larger, and from it they decrease gradually backward to the last very small tooth. They all have one comparatively large denticle on each side. Below, near snout tip, on each side, a small simple tooth, about twice as big as the corresponding one on the upper jaw. It is immediately followed by one continuous row of teeth with one strong denticle on each side. The first 2 of t his row are large, and form there they decrease gradually in size backwrards.
