Short Description
A large catshark with short nasal barbels and long horizontal black stripes [536].

Distribution
Southeast Atlantic: endemic to South Africa. There are old records from Madagascar and Mauritius, but these require confirmation [517]. Source: www.gbif.org

fisheries: subsistence fisheries; gamefish: yes

Biology
Oviparous, with a single egg-case per oviduct [517]. Embryos feed solely on yolk [733]. Size at hatching between 14 and 15 cm. Feeds on fish, cephalopods and crustaceans [536].
