Description
Original diagnosis after Cappetta & Gayet, 2013 [19525]: As for the genus: Genus showing rather small teeth (about 3.5 mm wide x 2.5 mm high for the largest specimen) with a crown of hexagonal outline in occlusal view, very high compared to the root, with a reticulated ornamentation especially marked in the labial and margino-labial regions of the occlusal face. Ornamentation of the lingual part of the occlusal face consisting in many weak folds labio-lingually oriented. Presence of a low medio-lingual cusp on some teeth in this area. Labial faces with a reticulate ornamentation; lingual faces with rather blunt vertical folds. Little high root compared to the crown (root representing 13% to almost 35% of the height crown according to the tooth position); lobes of pentagonal outline, with a very flat basal face, and separated by a shallow and narrow groove. Potobatis differs from Hypolophites, the morphologically closest genus, by clearly smaller teeth with a domed occlusal surface; occlusal surface with alveolar and not vermiculate ornamentation; median groove not extending on the labial and lingual face of the root by a gutter, contrary to Hypolophites.
