Description
Original diagnosis after Bronson, 2021 [31292]: According to the present description, Maiseyacanthus may be diagnosed as follows : Chondrichthyan features : Tessellated calcified cartilage, placoid scales (cranial cap denticles) Symmoriiform features : Enclosed, median dorsal aorta; single-crowned cranial cap denticles, cladodont teeth with small lateral cusps, no serrations, and a reniform tooth base. Autapomorphies of genus and species: platybasic skull, cranium with expanded roof in the otic region, and with a very large foramen magnum (approximately 1/5 of the width of the cranium), foramen magnum steeply angled in relation to the rest of the cranial cavity (appx. 100° relative to the angle of the external semicircular canal), four spino-occipital foramina present, lateral otic shelf upwardly curved and scooplike, large fossa present just medial to lateral otic process, periotic shelf present but very slight.
