Description
Revised diagnosis after Sequeira & Coates, 2000 [4031]: As for genus: A symmoriid shark as defined by Zangerl (1990), but which cannot be assessed for postpectoral symmoriid synapomorphies. Neurocranial ratio of ethmo-orbital to otico-occipital proportions c. 2:1; postorbital process length less than total width of otico-occipital unit; supraorbital shelf with concave rim; short lateral otic processes present; persistent otico-occipital fissure. Few more than six, well spaced, tooth families present on each jaw ramus. Posteriormost epibranchial anteroposteriorly narrow and rod-like, resembling anterior members of series; elongate and posteriorly slender basibranchial copula. Pectoral fin with six proximal radials articulating directly with girdle; metapterygium triangular, followed by jointed axial whip.
