Short Description
Original diagnosis of Misawa, Moteki & Endo, 2025 [34685]: A species of Bathyraja with the following combination of characters: disc rhomboid, remarkably broad, width 63.9–65.7% TL, length 76.5–77.7% DW, posterior margin rounded; maximum disc width just posterior to scapular region, snout to maximum disc width 42.2–47.1% DW; head small, dorsal and ventral head lengths 26.8–27.9% DW and 38.6–38.9% DW, respectively; snout broad, short; preorbital, preoral, and prenarial snout lengths 17.5–18.3% DW, 16.0–18.0% DW, and 13.5–14.3% DW, respectively; orbits and eyes rather large, orbit diameter 4.4–4.7% TL (1.27–1.43 times interorbital width), eyeball horizontal diameter 3.5% TL; interorbital, interspiracular, and internarial spaces rather narrow, their widths 5.0–5.5% DW (18.4–19.7% of head length), 5.6–6.1% DW, and 10.5–11.6% DW, respectively; gill slits close to each other, distances between 1st, 3rd, and 5th gill slits 11.3–12.8% TL, 9.2–10.5% TL, and 7.3–7.8% TL, respectively; tail long and slender, length 55.5–56.6% TL and 84.4–88.6% DW; dorsal fins moderately separated, interdorsal distance 0.9–1.1% TL and 20.5–24.7% of D1 base length; pelvic fin moderately notched, its anterior lobe relatively long; claspers moderately long, robust, the glans somewhat pointed, with large external pseudosiphon; precaudal body short, length 67.8–68.2% DW; tooth rows in upper and lower jaws 36 or 37 and 35–39, respectively; nuchal and scapular thorns absent; tail thorns distinct, arranged at regular intervals, not extending to nuchal region, 22–27 thorns in predorsal tail, and single thorn in interdorsal space; dorsal surface with prickles distributed along pectoral-fin margins, and on snout, interorbital space, eyeball skin, dorsal and caudal fins, and along midline of disc from nuchal region to tail tip, but absent or sparse on central part of pectoral fin; ventral surface without prickles (entirely smooth); dorsal and ventral surfaces almost entirely brown; size very small, adult males 625–645 mm TL and 408–421 mm DW.
