Description
Original diagnosis after Cappetta, Morrison & Adnet, 2019 [27810]: As the family is monotypic, same diagnosis for the family, genus and species. Family known only by isolated teeth and including a single genus characterised by a rather high and narrow cusp, straight in anterior files and bent lingually and distally in more lateral files. This cusp is perpendicular to the basal plane of the root in labial view. There is an occurrence of a pair of small sharp lateral cusplets, well separated from the base of the cusp and slightly bent lingually. In lateral files, the cusplets are united with the base of the cusp by an oblique cutting heel. In all teeth, the cusps are completely smooth, devoid of folds and the cutting edges are salient and sharp. The root is not very thick and is much broader than long. In apical view, the root has a peculiar outline that resembles a duck’s foot. Basal face outline is concave labially, convex marginally, with two angular lingual protuberances on both sides of a roughly horizontal segment. This basal face exhibits a pair of elliptical shallow articular hollows. The lingual face of the root bears a pair of labiolingually directed crests starting at the margin of the angular lingual protuberances.
