Description
Original diagnosis after Cappetta, Morrison & Adnet, 2019 [27810]: Rostral teeth are characterised by the combination of the following characters: high cusp with a straight posterior cutting edge and a convex anterior one; upper and lower faces of the cusp smooth, practically devoid of folds, except on the anterior and posterior edges; apical part of the cusp joins regularly with the rest of the cusp, without an apical narrowing; not very salient basal bulge overhanging the peduncle by an oblique to convex limit; peduncle with a triangular outline with a practically straight posterior limit, a concave anterior limit and a straight to convex proximal limit; large teeth oriented anteriorly.
Oral teeth are characterised by the combination of the following characters: a strong median triangular cusp joining marginal oblique heels devoid of cusplets; enameloid surface smooth, except some tenuous and very short folds on the margin of the apron; in occlusal view, the root is broader than the crown which is overpassed marginally; the basal margin of the labial face of the crown shows a salient obtuse median angle; the root is broader than the crown in antero-lateral teeth.
Rostral teeth of P. pricei differentiates from those of P. smithi mainly by their larger size, by the lack of salient folds on upper and lower faces of the cusp, by cusp anteriorly oriented, and by apical part of the cusp not marked by a narrowing.
Oral teeth of P. pricei can be separated from those of P. smithi by their larger size, a stronger median cusp, crown with a smooth enameloid, and the occurrence of a medially angular apron.
