Biology
Exhibit ovoviparity (aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures [733]. Off southern China, the gestation period is about one year and parturition takes place in June or July. Caught throughout the year in coastal waters of southern China. Feeds on small benthic animals.
