Short Description
Diagnosis after KOEDA, ITOU, YAMADA & MOTOMURA, 2020 [28927]: A large-sized species of Rhynchobatus with the following combination of characters: snout obtusely wedge shaped, angle ca. 52–57°; preoral length 17.4–17.9% TL, prespiracular length 19.3–19.5%; interdorsal space 16.7–17.9%; total pectoral-fin radials 54–56; total free vertebral centra 136–144; tooth rows on upper jaw ca. 54–66; spines absent on snout; outer fold on posterior margin of spiracle more pronounced than inner fold; pre-first dorsalfin length 46.4–48.6%; apex of dorsal fins bluntly rounded; origin of first dorsal fin about level with pelvic-fin origin; a spiracle-sized black blotch followed by a single white spot (rarely absent) posterodorsally, on middle of pectoral disc; distal region of pectoral disc to middorsal area lacking distinct white spots; a single blotch below eye usually absent; a rounded black blotch covering anterior half of undersurface of snout; a pair of small distinct black spots near snout tip.

Distribution
only from nearshore to offshore waters off the western coast of Kyushu south to Kasasa, Satsuma Peninsula, north to Nagasaki, west to the northern East China Sea, and off Tateyama, Boso Peninsula [28927]

TL (max, paratype): 2000 mm, but probably attains close to 3000 mm [28927]

Habitat
marine, depth range: 15-135 m [28927]

Dentition
Teeth quincunx, ca. 54 (56–66) rows on upper jaw. [28927]
