Description
Original diagnosis after Saugen, Roberts, Engelschion & Hurum, 2024 [34071]: The specimens are referred to the genus cf. Synechodus based on: the central cusp and the lateral cusplets are poorly separated, i.e., the lateral cusplets appear as an elevation of the crown; mesio-distally elongated crown; asymmetrical number of lateral cusplets with mesio-distally decreasing height; labial face slightly overhangs the labial groove; slightly concave root base.
The cf. Synechodus rotheliusi is based on isolated teeth, possessing the following unique character combinations: A nearly smooth crown surface, except small vertical crests at the crown base in some specimens (in contrast to longitudinal crests of Synechodus incrementum and reticulate crests of Synechodus rhaeticus); sharp cutting edges (differs from Synechodus tenuis which has a weak cutting edge and no cutting edge in Synechodus triangulus); acute lingually inclined cusps and cusplets; from 3:1 to 5:1 central cusp height/lateral cusplets height ratio (compared with 2:1 in S. incrementum and S. rhaeticus); pseudopolyaulacorhize root vascularization pattern; pseudoosteodont; enameloid with SCE, PBE, TBE including RBE (S. incrementum and S. rhaeticus also have SCE, PBE, TBE, but RBE is absent).
