Description
Original diagnosis after Saugen, Roberts, Engelschion & Hurum, 2024 [34071]: Wimanodon marmieri is based on isolated teeth possessing the following apomorphies unique among Synechodontiformes (*) and unique character combinations: Basal-radiating vertical crests forming longitudinal lines at the base (unlike the reticulated pattern in Synechodus rhaeticus); round and bulgy crown with rounded apices of the central cusp and lateral cusplets* (contrasts to acute in Synechodus, Mucrovenator, Rhomphaiodon, and sub-rounded in Safrodus); the labial face overhangs the labial groove (not present in Rhomphaiodon minor); blunt cutting edge (differs from the sharp cutting edge in Synechodus, Safrodus, and Mucrovenator); up to six lateral cusplets (unlike R. minor (2), Mucrovenator (2), Safrodus (3), S. rhaeticus (4)); poorly separated lateral cusplets, usually clustered on the mesial or distal heel (in contrast to well separated cusps in Safrodus and Mucrovenator); lingually inclined crown; flat to concave root base (different from the flat root base in R. minor); pseudopolyaulacorhize vascularization pattern associated with a labial depression in the root; pseudoosteodont; SCE, PBE, and TBE (additional RBE in cf. Synechodus rotheliusi).
