Carcharhinus galapagensis (Snodgrass & Heller, 1905)

Description:

a) after Bass et al., 1973

The teeth of a 170cm male from the Walters Shoal are illustrated in pl. 6. The cusps of both upper and lower teeth are serrated, the latter so finely that the serrations are virtually invisible except under magnification. Present material, which does not include adult specimens, shows no sexual dimorphism in tooth shape or number. The usual tooth count in 18 jaws was 14 - 1- 14 / 14 - 1 - 14. Central teeth varied between one and two in each jaw but were usually single. Variation in the number of lateral teeth is summarised in table 22.
